The minister wished the yachters fair wind and thanked for continuing this noble mission of promoting Lithuania’s name in the world, which celebrates the millennium anniversary of the first mention of its name, and of inviting Lithuanians all around the world to mark this honourable anniversary together with the people of Lithuania.
Minister Usackas presented notes to the participants of the Odyssey, indicating that the yachters were under the protection and patronage of the Lithuanian diplomatic service.
"Wherever you were - in front, near or behind Cape Horn - hoist this tricolour on 16 February," wished Minister Usackas, presenting the Lithuanian flag.
The yachters invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs to sail together the last route of "The Millennium Odyssey" from Karaliaucius (now Kaliningrad) to Klaipeda, starting on 5 July and to hoist the tricolour in the Baltic Sea. The Minister kindly accepted this invitation.
President of the Yachting Club Ambersail and Captain of "The Millennium Odyssey" Paulius Egidijus Kovas, head of the project "The Millennium Odyssey" and Chairman of the Board of the Yachting Club Ambersail Raimundas Daubaras, and Vice-President of the Lithuanian Yachting Union, Captain of "The Millennium Odyssey" Naglis Nasvytis took part in the press conference.
Right after the event, yachters Daubaras and Nasvytis flew to Argentina, where they will start sailing on the sixth route of the Odyssey on 14 February: Ushuaia - Berisso - Buenos Aires - Montevideo - Sao Paulo. The crew sailing the sixth route, the so-called route of "The Millennium Odyssey" of the captains is to sail past the legendary Cape Horn.
