The main event of this millennium anniversary happened in Klaipeda with the return of “The Millennium Odyssey” yacht “Ambersail” LTU 1000. The anthem was sung at 21:00, Lithuania time, so that Lithuanians everywhere could gather after dawn to sing.
In varying numbers, participants around the world in their cities and towns, and in Lithuania, gathered to sing and record the anthem of Lithuania. The videos were collected to create a visual work. The first showing will be on July 6th at 18:45, on the TV3 News.
“It is particularly great that the singing of the anthem of Lithuania project has a life of its own, regardless of our efforts and desires”, – Raimundas Daubaras, Oddyssey initiator and project manager. “Recently, every day we would hear of original thoughts on where and how Lithuanians will sing the anthem throughtout the world. We are the first nation in history that has sung the national anthem simultaneously around the world, loud and proud to tell the whole world that Lithuania’s name is one thousand years old!”

The idea to encircle the world’s Lithuanians with our national anthem began with “The Millennium Odyssey” sailors visiting Lithuanian communities around the world. Having met Lithuanians from other shores, it was noticed that the anthem of Lithuania can sound different and that it brings people from various parts of the world together.
At 21:00 on July 5th, the Lithuanian anthem was broadcasted by almost all radio stations. It rang through Lithuania’s major trade centers, during the song festival, and in Vincas Kudirka’s square in Vilnius, where the monument to the anthem’s author, V. Kudirka, stands. Even cafes, bars and restaurants joined the initiative.
